For a football fan, a penalty shootout in the play-off finals -- with the chance of your team being promoted to the Premier League, no less -- is about as tense as it gets.

And it's even more tense when you're not 100% sure what's going on.

On Monday, Huddersfield took on Reading in the Championship Final. The winner would be promoted to the Premier League, while the loser would stay down in the Championship.

Live-tweeting the action was Sir Patrick Stewart's son, Daniel. He and his dad were in the crowd to support Huddersfield.

With no goals in the first 90 minutes or in extra time, the game eventually went to penalties.

And when the final result came in, some fans were clearly so tense they totally lost track of what was going on:

Here's Sir Patrick Stewart being interviewed after the game (jump to 0:30 for the bit where he talks about the penalty shootout):

"I have to tell you, I thought there were two more penalties," says Stewart in the clip above. "I didn't realise that the penalties were over.

"So I was turning away when I heard this yell and realised it's all over!"

Well, at least it was a nice surprise.
